Suddenly crashing on Server 2008 SP2 x64

Used this for years but last month, the service stopped working and gave this error in the event log:
.NET Runtime version : 4.0.30319.36415 - This application could not be started. This application requires one of the following versions of the .NET Framework:
.NETFramework,Version=v4.6

I upgraded to NET Framework 4.6 (the latest version supported by Server 2008) and installed 11.4.4. Install goes fine but when I start program it crashes.

So far I have tried without success:

  1. Remove and re-installed 11.4.4
  2. Remove 11.4.4 and install v11.3.12. Same crash and error.

Event logs show Event 1000 Application Error:
Faulting application SBF.Application.exe, version 11.4.4.0, time stamp 0x5a7f42da, faulting module KERNEL32.dll, version 6.0.6002.19623, time stamp 0x56ec4631, exception code 0xe0434352, fault offset 0x00000000000166cd, process id 0x%9, application start time 0x%10.

And then Event 1026 Error source .NET Runtime:
Application: SBF.Application.exe
Framework Version: v4.0.30319
Description: The process was terminated due to an unhandled exception.
Exception Info: exception code e0434352, exception address 00000000774C66CD
Stack:

This program worked for years just fine so some update appears to have broken by an auto update around 1/10/2018.

Hi Jason,

Thank you for the details. This is known issue and we are working to fix it.
Sorry for the inconvenience.

Hi Alexander, I ran Windows Update last night and it installed two .NET cumulative security updates. I rebooted. This morning, v11.4.4 ran fine. I assume your autoupdate did not push anything?

My 2008 server is always fully updated. I can only conclude that installing .NET 4.6 recently triggered these two updates.

Hi,

Thanks for the feedback.

Yes, we haven’t released new updates. The latest version is 11.4.4. Perhaps the issues were related to .Net.
