How to setup Windows to run scheduled backup

Looking at the product, have a question about scheduled backups.

I run the program and create a scheduled backup. Do I have to have stay logged in for a scheduled backup to run or does a scheduled backup occur, even if no users are logged in?

Does the app run as a service or need to be running as an open application to properly work?
