How will this program be affected by the upcoming changes to Gmail and using less secure 3rd party apps? Since we can only see the email form to submit via Google and can’t see the backend, is the app secure and will continue to work or is there something we need to fix to continue to get email notifications?

I created an app password for each instance of the application I was using. An app password is a unique password assigned by Google to a connection that can’t be setup securely (copiers, cameras, certain applications). Go to your Google Account, then Security, then App Passwords to create the login. You will have to enable some form of MFA to do this.
