Does this function will work on running DB? I mean when trying to copy *.mdf file as usual system says “file in use”

We do not recommend you to backup *.mdf and *.ldf files, and we do not support it. Instead, you can create a backup job and backup databases you need. Please find more details at https://sqlbackupandftp.com/tutorial
