Backup to NAS fails, but config test always succeedes

Hi All,
This is from 12.4.4 Professional backing up one MSSQL database from the local server.
I have a backup of a large database that runs a daily full and takes several hours to complete. This backup has been running successfully for several years. Now, every day, it fails to connect to the remote share on a NAS to upload the backups.
If I open the configuration for the destination, the test button always succeeds, even if it’s around the same time that the backup fails to that destination. This happens in the middle of the work day and both the server with SqlBackupAndFtp installed and the destination NAS are being used with no other reports of connectivity issues.
I have manually copied the local saved backup files to the NAS with no issue as well. the only time that the connection fails is during the backup job.
I have rebooted the server that is running SqlBackupAndFtp, but that has not fixed anything. And as I mentioned, the Test button in the job config succeeds for this destination.
Any idea what I can try next?

I all also note that the error in the job log shows Access to the path is denied.

It is now also throwing errors trying to clean up the old backup files on the local drive on the server every day. It is also showing access denied. It is using the same account that it uses to connect to the remote NAS. That account has full control access to the local drive.

Hi Tim,

As a first step, I’d suggest updating SQLBackupAndFTP from 12.4.4 to the latest version (12.8.3) and checking if the issue still occurs.

If it does, let us know and we’ll investigate further.

Hi Oleg,
I did upgrade to 12.8.3 on Tuesday afternoon and also moved the destination network share to a different NAS device. The backup yesterday completed successfully all around. It also corrected the issues with the local folder destination.
Looks like I’m all good here. Hoping it will continue completing successfully.

Hi Tim,

Glad to hear everything is working properly now!

If you run into any issues again, please don’t hesitate to reach out. We’ll be happy to help.
