Server is in single user mode

after successfully backing up a number of my databases I get

• 3:03:15 AM : ERROR: Failed to backup “xxxx” database with “Full” backup type: Login failed for user ‘userxxxx’. Reason: Server is in single user mode. Only one administrator can connect at this time.

why is this happening?

Could you please tell us are you able to perform a backup manually via SQL Server Management Studio?
