I have version 11.3.8 installed. Due to hard disk crash I lost all traces of previous SQLBackupAndFTP activities on disc C, but the DB backup I made is still available on an external disc. How can I restore it however?

Could you please tell us, have you exported your backup job configurations, by clicking “Tools” > “Configuration Manager…” > “Export”?
If yes, then you can import these settings to the current backup job by clicking “Tools” > “Configuration Manager…” > “Import” and then restore your backups from SQLBackupAndFTP.
If no you can restore your backups with the help of SQL Server Management Studio or if you need to restore just a full backup you can use a free simple tool - “One-Click SQL Restore”. Please find more details at https://sqlbackupandftp.com/restore
