Why does sqlbackupandftp create a new diff backup every 24 hours? Why is the chain interrupted?

It depends on your backup schedule settings which can be checked at the “Schedule backups” section. Could you please send us a screenshot of your schedule settings?
Differential backups are cumulative, not incremental. This means that a differential backup contains all changes made since the last full backup, in spite of the fact that they have already been included in previous differential backups.
